Modernizing Finance & Operations: How Sylvie Jewelry Gained Real-Time COGS Visibility with AWS
Retail & eCommerce

Jewelry Business

Executive Summary

Sylvie Jewelry, a fast-growing jeweler specializing in engagement rings and fine fashion pieces, faced challenges reconciling costs and pricing due to fragmented, manual invoice processes. Partnering with Aligned Technology Group (ATG), they implemented an AWS-native Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) and analytics solution. Leveraging Amazon Bedrock, Textract, and QuickSight, the system automated invoice processing, delivered real-time cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) visibility, and enabled data-driven pricing decisions. The transformation allowed Sylvie to improve efficiency, protect margins, and lay a foundation for future AI-driven growth.

Customer Overview

Sylvie Jewelry is an established jeweler serving retail and eCommerce customers across the U.S. With limited internal IT resources, the company needed a scalable, cloud-based approach to better manage financial data, improve reporting accuracy, and support leadership with timely insights.

Situation

The company relied on manual processes to reconcile invoices, purchase orders, and raw material costs. Data was siloed, making it difficult to track pricing fluctuations in gold, silver, and platinum markets. This limited leadership’s ability to make fast, accurate decisions, putting margins and competitiveness at risk.

Task

Sylvie Jewelry engaged Aligned Technology Group (ATG) to:

  • Automate invoice and financial data processing

  • Create a single source of truth for cost and pricing data

  • Provide real-time visibility into COGS and margin performance

  • Enable leadership with BI dashboards for confident decision-making

Action

Action

ATG designed and deployed a cloud-native solution leveraging AWS services:

  • Amazon Bedrock & Textract to process and extract structured data from invoices

  • AWS Lambda & Step Functions for serverless document workflows

  • Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL to store and normalize financial data

  • Amazon QuickSight and Q for Business to provide interactive dashboards and natural language insights

  • AWS Amplify for a lightweight frontend application

The end-to-end solution reduced human intervention, improved accuracy, and delivered business intelligence through secure, scalable AWS services.

ATG Engagement & Expertise

ATG partnered with Sylvie from ideation to production, guiding them from no AWS presence to a modernized, cloud-native solution. The engagement combined strategic advisory with deep AWS technical expertise, ensuring rapid adoption and minimal disruption.

Result

Sylvie Jewelry now processes invoices in a fraction of the time, with error rates reduced to under 1%. Leadership has real-time visibility into COGS and margins, enabling smarter, data-driven pricing strategies. The AWS-native foundation positions Sylvie to expand AI and analytics into supply chain, logistics, and sales—supporting long-term growth and competitiveness.

Cost Optimization

Issue: Small AWS deployment with little management oversight and a lack of cloud skills internal to the organization moving from traditional infrastructure to SaaS and cloud based solutions.

What we did

  1. AWS Audit
  2. Cost Optimization Review
  3. Ongoing Monitoring

Result:

  • Eliminated unused storage volumes and the old application server no longer in use, the charges for AWS resulted in a savings of 51% per month.
  • We’ll continue to monitor AWS billing and finance to ensure maintenance of savings and identify other future changes.
