Challenge
Knowledge Sharing Systems (KSS), a software provider serving government agencies, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and enterprise customers, sought to modernize its virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and application delivery model by migrating to AWS. The organization required a secure, scalable, and reliable cloud platform capable of delivering non-persistent desktops and applications from any location while supporting highly regulated customer environments.
KSS had previously engaged another cloud services provider for an initial proof-of-concept deployment, but the implementation lacked the scalability, architectural alignment, and operational readiness needed for full customer adoption. KSS needed a trusted AWS partner to assess the existing environment, redesign the architecture, and guide the organization toward a successful enterprise-scale deployment.
Solution
Aligned Technology Group (ATG) partnered with KSS to evaluate and optimize the existing AWS deployment while creating a scalable and secure cloud architecture tailored to customer requirements.
ATG conducted a comprehensive review of the prior implementation and provided strategic advisory services focused on improving architecture, security, scalability, and operational readiness. The team then developed an automated infrastructure deployment framework using Terraform to standardize provisioning, strengthen governance, and accelerate deployment consistency across environments.
Aligned also worked closely with KSS to validate application functionality, optimize the AWS environment, and provide ongoing Elastic Engineering support for future AWS platform enhancements, operational updates, and cloud modernization initiatives.
AWS Services Used
- Amazon EC2 for Microsoft Windows – Delivered scalable Windows-based workloads and non-persistent desktop environments
- AWS Infrastructure Services – Supported secure and scalable cloud-hosted applications and services
- AWS Professional Services – Guided architecture optimization and deployment modernization
- Terraform on AWS – Enabled infrastructure-as-code automation and repeatable deployment processes
- AWS Security & Networking Services – Improved security, connectivity, and governance across the AWS environment
- AWS Monitoring & Operations Services – Supported ongoing operational management and platform reliability
Business Outcomes
- Successfully modernized the customer’s cloud architecture for scalable AWS deployment
- Improved platform reliability, security, and operational consistency across customer environments
- Automated infrastructure deployment processes using Terraform, reducing manual provisioning effort
- Accelerated deployment readiness for secure cloud-hosted applications and desktop services
- Enhanced support for remote access and distributed user environments through cloud-based delivery models
- Established a foundation for ongoing AWS optimization, modernization, and operational support
Strategic Impact
The engagement enabled KSS to transition from an incomplete proof-of-concept deployment to a scalable, enterprise-ready AWS environment capable of supporting a diverse customer base across government, healthcare, academia, and enterprise sectors.
By implementing automation, improving cloud architecture, and strengthening operational governance, ATG helped KSS accelerate cloud adoption while reducing deployment risk and operational complexity. The partnership positioned KSS with a future-ready AWS foundation capable of supporting continued innovation, secure remote access capabilities, and long-term scalability for its software and services portfolio.
